Online meat store purveyors have elevated the standards and quality, niching into what their consumers want, expanding the selection and quality available at your local grocery store.

🔪 Why GirlsCanGrill recommends it:
I’m a fan of Snake River Farms, because the American Wagyu provides consistent, delicious marbling. It’s the only brisket I use in BBQ competitions. Because you’re getting such amazing quality, their meat is more expensive, so I buy the smaller steak cuts for special dinners.
See how to cook a Snake River Farms Wagyu New York Strip here.

A quick note about the brands that made the cut: We love ALL options to buy meat, and are excited to see so many online resources for consumers. We in no way believe there is one choice that is better than another and this list is meant to be a tool for consumers to use to help guide them with so many options. There are a lot of fantastic options out there that we have yet to add to this living list.
Pros: Why we love ordering meat online
As professional meat nerds, we take everything from animal welfare to the quality and value of the different cts we cook and eat into consideration. We scrutinize meat labels and test if Prime is really better than Choice.
What we love about ordering meat online is that it opens the door for small farms and butcher shops to offer cuts that we can’t source locally. It allows us to get our hands on different types of meat that we don’t see at our markets, different methods like paster-raised meat or game meats we can’t normally buy. It helps us test and let you decide the best choices for your personal preference and wallet.
We love the convenience and effort that every shop we included in this list put into packaging so that the meat arrived cold and safe.
Cons: What to consider
While we love that we can order meat from all over, we don’t feel that it is the most sustainable option. It brings us peace of mind to know that all the purveyors are raiding their animals with th best standard of care and producing the best product to feed America but is the cost of shipping these packages good for a long-term goal? Or is it better to shop within your local community? Perhaps this is reserved for special occasions, and reaching out to local farmers or your local butcher and striking up a relationship is more sustainable in the end—just some food for thought.
FAQs for buying meat online:
No, buying meat online is not cheaper than watching the sales ads at your local market. However, it does provide a wider selection. For day-to-day meat purchases, nothing will beat a local butcher, farmers market, or your daily market.
Yes, ordering meat online is safe. We have lived in both extremely remote and cold and extremely hot climates and have rarely had a problem with delivery. When meat does arrive above a food-safe temperature, the vendor has always made it right and immediately ships new product.
As long as the meat is below 40 degrees F and cold to the touch, it should be ok.
Each vendor listed above is different, but most either ship within 10 days or allow you to choose the shipment date or week so you know exactly when to expect your product.
If you are ordering for the holidays, we recommend ordering 15 days ahead to avoid any shipping issues or delays.
Shopping online is one of the best places to find delicious cuts of meat that taste as fresh as if they came from your local butcher. With so many options to choose from, it can be difficult to determine where to buy meat online in 2024. But, we’re hoping we narrowed it down for you. Did we miss a place to buy meat online you think we need to try? Let us know!
Great article. I disagree with your classification of Wild Fork Foods, I use it for a LOT of my day-to-day meals. Their beef, especially, is often on par price wise with local markets and it’s better quality. I pay the $29/year for free shipping and I have been using them for a couple of years.
I have also used Fossil Farms, I tend to go to them for game meat, and have been very happy with them over the years for my game meat.
Again, a great article and very informative. Thank you!
Thanks, Jim! We use Wild Fork quite a bit too. Porter Road still stands as our go-to for daily meat but I found a Wild Fork in California that I can walk through – and it’s like being a kid in a candy shop! I love stopping by there when Im in that part of the woods. Appreciate your comment and stay tuned for updates. As we test more places, we will keep this post up-to-date. Cheers,
