What Are Garlic Parmesan French Fries?

These air fryer fries are a fun twist on classic French fries. The garlic and parmesan make these fries super flavorful and bold without being overpowering. Then, we use the air fryer to crisp them up to perfection! It’s a combo we also use on our favorite garlic parm chicken wings.

The air fryer cooking method allows the fries to get super crispy without using a ton of oil or deep frying! In addition, the hot air circulating the fries helps them to cook in a fraction of the time as other cooking methods, making them a great side dish or appetizer!

Ingredients for this air fryer french fries recipe.

Air Fryer Garlic Parmesan Fries Ingredients

  • Russet potatoes
  • Avocado oil
  • Garlic powder
  • Kosher Salt
  • Fresly ground Black pepper
  • Parmesan cheese – You can use pre-grated or grate it yourself!

How to Make These Parmesan Garlic Fries

Preheat the Air Fryer & PRep the Potatoes

  • Start by preheating your air fryer to 390 degrees Fahrenheit. Let it heat up for about 5 minutes before cooking.
  • Take your russet potatoes and cut them in half lengthwise. Then, cut them into fries about ¼ inch thick. Keep in mind that thicker fries will take a bit longer to cook. Then, in a big bowl, put your fries in and add avocado oil, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix them all together until the fries are coated evenly with the seasonings.

Air Fry the Fries

  • Put the seasoned fries into the air fryer basket, making sure they’re in a single layer. To cook them properly, spread them out. If you’re making a lot, you might need to cook them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Next, cook the fries at 390 degrees F for about 20 minutes.
  • Remember to flip them halfway through to make sure they cook evenly. Keep an eye on them, as cooking times can vary depending on your air fryer.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Once they’re done, take the golden fries out of the air fryer. If you like, sprinkle freshly grated parmesan cheese on top for extra flavor. You can also add some fresh parsley, and if you want more seasoning, a bit of extra salt and pepper.
  • Now dig into your homemade crispy fries right from the air fryer!

Girl Carnivore Expert Recipe Tips

  • Crispness: For extra crispy fries, soak the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water with a splash of vinegar for 2-3 hours if you have the time. You can also soak them in the fridge overnight to make things easier! After soaking, dry them off with paper towels to ensure the skin becomes crispy.
  • Sauces: Use whatever kind of dipping sauce you like, or eat them plain! Some great dipping sauces are ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing, honey mustard, or anything else you like!
  • Garlic: For even more garlic flavor, use pre-minced garlic or mince the garlic cloves yourself instead of using garlic powder!

What to Serve With These Savory Fries

For an elegant pairing, serve your fries with a steak and make a delectable Steak Frites meal! Or, serve them with a Fried Chicken Sandwich for a spicy twist! If you want to stick to just using the air fryer for your entire dinner, pair your fries with some Air Fryer Shrimp or Air Fryer Garlic Parmesan Wings! In other words, a big pile of fries is the universal side dish that no one will turn down.

Leftovers & Reheating

Store any leftover fries in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days. You can also freeze them for up to 1 year!

To reheat, whether using refrigerated or frozen fries, pop them back into the air fryer at 400 degrees F for a couple of minutes or until heated through and golden brown.

Recipe FAQs

CAN I USE ANOTHER TYPE OF POTATO FOR THIS RECIPE?

We recommend sticking with more starchy potatoes like Yukon Gold and Russet. These potatoes will hold their shape and not fall apart during cooking.

CAN I MAKE THIS RECIPE USING SWEET POTATOES?

Yes! Just follow the recipe like normal, but use sweet potatoes instead! You can even play around with different seasonings like brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey to sweeten things up!

CAN I USE TRUFFLE OIL INSTEAD OF AVOCADO OIL?

You could but we recommend finishing with truffle oil just so it doesn’t overpower. We also have a Duck Fat Fries recipe that uses truffle oil if you want to check that out!

WHY ARE MY FRENCH FRIES NOT CRISPY?

If you overload the air fryer basket, your fries might not cook evenly, leaving some fries perfectly cooked and others uncooked and soggy. To remedy this, make sure you only load the fries in a single layer and cook them in batches.
