When it comes to an amazing chicken wing recipe, we can’t say no to ultra-crispy wings drenched in creamy cheese garlic parmesan sauce. There’s just something about that punchy parmesan flavor paired with the garlic that screams football season. But honestly, you don’t need football as an excuse to enjoy these tasty wings. (We make these as our appetizer for F1 races as well).

Around here, we love any excuse to enjoy every type of wing, from pickle brined wings to buttermilk brined wings! Air fried, grilled or smoked—we love them all. But these Garlic Parm Wings are something else! Air-fried to perfection and packed with mouthwatering flavor, these babies are highly addictive. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

There’s really nothing you won’t love about these golden brown, crispy wings, slathered in a buttery garlic sauce that will have your tastebuds singing. Crisped to perfection, these wings are the perfect appetizer with just the right amount of heat! Plus, these crispy chicken wings are so easy to make and even easier to eat!

Garlic Parmesan Wing Ingredients

Out of all the air fryer chicken wings you could make, this garlic parmesan chicken wings recipe is unmatched! Well, ok, we love our pickle brined wings too, and we have been known to serve them together as a creamy and spicy combo platter….

For the Garlic Parmesan Wings: 

  • Chicken Wings – we love whole chicken wings for value but you can use drums and flats if you prefer.
  • Oil – we use avocado oil for it’s high cook temp and neutral taste but canola works great too
  • Salt – we always use Kosher salt
  • Buffalo Sauce of Choice – we use this Primal Kitchen buffalo sauce.

For the Parmesan Garlic Sauce

  • Fresh Garlic – alternatively, skip the roasted garlic and use Adam’s Garlic Junkie from Spiceology instead
  • Oil – olive oil works
  • Butter – We always use unsalted butter
  • Mayo – We use this avocado mayo to keep this recipe Keto
  • Vinegar
  • Lemon Juice 
  • Freshly ground Black Pepper
  • Salt
  • Girl Carnivore Over Easy blend – alternatively oregano, red pepper flakes, thyme, basil, lemon zest
  • Parmesan – use freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • Chives

To Serve: 

  • Parsley 
  • Parmesan Cheese

How to Make air fryer chicken Wings

Roast Garlic 

Let’s start by preheating the oven to 325 degrees F. Then you will chop the top ¼ off the head of garlic and place it on your aluminum foil, drizzling with oil and salt. Next, wrap your foil around the garlic and place it into the oven to roast for 60 minutes.

Once your garlic is finished roasting, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes before you open the foil packet. Once the garlic is cool enough to touch, you can squeeze the garlic cloves from the head and mash them into a paste.

If you don’t want to go through this step, a great garlic blend works fine in place; we love Adam’s Garlic Junkie from Spicology, or use a blend of garlic powder or granulated garlic.

Make Sauce 

Moving on to the parmesan and garlic butter sauce: in a small bowl, whisk the mashed garlic, melted butter, and mayo. You may also use a food processor for this step. Then add the vinegar, lemon juice, black pepper, salt, Over Easy spice blend, parmesan, and chives. Then cover the bowl and allow it to school for 2 hours or up to 3 days until you are ready to serve!

Air Fry Wings

Start by patting your wings dry with a paper towel, rubbing with oil, and seasoning lightly with salt. Pop them in the Airfryer at 380 – 400 degrees F until they become crispy. At the halfway mark (20 minutes), flip your wings. Their internal temp should reach about 165F. Rotating them will ensure they cook evenly and come out nice and crispy.

Once they are cooked, remove them from the air fryer and immediately toss them in your buffalo sauce. Then return them to the air fryer and allow them to cook for another 5 minutes.

Finally, remove them from the air fryer, and there you have it! You’re ready to serve!

Serve

You have two options: serve your wings with the sauce on the side or toss them in the sauce! Just depends on your personal preference.

Place the crispy garlic parmesan wings on a serving platter, garnish with minced fresh parsley and a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and serve immediately. Loving this flavor combo in the air fryer? Why not try honey garlic chicken wings too!

Storage

These wings are best when they are hot and fresh, but if you do end up with leftover wings… first of all, SHOCKING. If you do have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to three months.

Reheating Leftovers

To reheat your wings, place them on a baking sheet on the oven rack for 15-20 minutes at 325F. If they are frozen, thaw them in the fridge before reheating.

FAQs

How do I make my wing skin crispy?

Blot away any excess moisture before adding oil and salt. Then pop them in the air fryer. Cooking properly in the air fryer will help you achieve the crispy wings of your dreams.
We have used baking soda in other recipes to crisp the wings, but found in the air fryer, it’s not needed.

Can I air fry chicken wings from frozen?

Yes, you can. But, we have found that when cooked from frozen there is excess liquid in the wings and cook times can take longer.

How long do chicken wings take in the air fryer?

After testing several air fryers and whole wings, drums and flats, we have found that cook times vary. Smaller air fryers seem to cook wings faster, but we need to make a few batches, while larger ones take longer.

What’s most important is that the meat reaches 165 degrees F with an instant-read thermometer and that the skin gets crazy crispy! We find that often means air frying the wings to 175 to 180F. Start at 20 minutes, flipping halfway through cook time, and adjust as needed.

Your new favorite game day recipe! Crispy garlic parmesan wings cooked in the air fryer and then tossed in a zesty garlic parm wing sauce!

Ingredients  

For the Garlic parmesan wings:

  • 2 lbs Chicken Wings
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • ½ cup buffalo sauce of choice We use Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce

For the Garlic parmesan wing sauce

  • 1 head of Garlic alternatively, use Adam’s Garlic Junkie from Spiceology
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 4 tbsp butter melted
  • cup Mayo we use avocado mayo
  • 1 tsp white Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice
  • ½ tsp Black pepper
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp Girl Carnivore Over Easy spice blend alternatively oregano, red pepper flakes, thyme, basil, lemon zest
  • ¼ cup Parmesan
  • 2 tbsp Chives

To Serve:

  • Parsley minced
  • Parmesan cheese grated

Instructions 

Roast Garlic

  • Preheat oven to 325
  • Chop top ¼ off head of garlic.
  • Place in foil
  • Drizzle with oil and salt
  • Wrap foil around.
  • Roast for 60 minutes
  • Remove from over and let cool 10 minutes before opening foil packet.
  • When garlic has cooled enough to touch, squeeze the cloves from the head.
  • Mash.

Make the wing sauce

  • Whisk the mashed roasted garlic with the butter and mayo in a small bowl. Or the bowl of your food processor.
  • Add in the vinegar, lemon juice, black pepper, salt, Over Easy, parmesan, and chives.
  • Cover and chill for 2 hours or up to 3 days until ready to serve.

Air fry wings

  • Pat dry
  • Rub with oil and season lightly with salt.
  • Air fry at 380 – 400 degrees F until crispy, flipping once halfway through and internal temperature reaches 165. About 20 minutes.
  • Remove from air fryer and immediately toss in buffalo sauce.
  • Return to the air fryer and cook 5 to 10 minutes longer, until the skin gets brown and extra crispy.
  • Remove from the air fryer and allow to rest 5 minutes.

Serve

  • Serve hot with sauce on the side OR toss wings in the sauce to coat them.
  • Garnish with freshly minced parsley and a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

We have tested this recipe in several air fryers and found that cook time varies for crispy skin. Start with 20 minutes, and increase as needed. Be sure to flip your wings and rotate them so they are all getting evenly cooked.
