Who doesn’t love burgers? And Pizza? What if your burger was on a pizza? Do I have your attention yet?

This cheeseburger pizza recipe was born of late-night snacking and hunger. And it was devoured with an equal amount of gusto.

Because cheeseburger pizza is the best of both worlds
When May comes around, it’s an all-out Americana burger celebration and who am I to disappoint? Given that I have been making patties for the last few days like they were going out of style, I want today’s #burgermonth creation to be a little bit different, not between a bun, and use up some of those leftovers.
Reminded of a waiter we had once. He thought a cheeseburger on a pizza was the wildest thing he had ever invented ( who may also have been very high at the time. Marijuana has a way of inducing such culinary visions… at least that is what my friend of a friend tells me) I figured why the heck not.
To cheeseburgers… On pizza…
It isn’t rocket science to figure out there is deep genius involved here. Pizza. Burgers. What are you in the mood for? When you hit that crossroads of which wards off hunger better, then why have to choose?
With a cheeseburger pizza, it is the having your cake and eating it too zone, where all desires are fulfilled.
After all, pizza crust is still a type of bread. Hamburger does not have to come as a patty. Perfectly bite sized bits of grilled hamburger strewn across a cheesy landscape still taste like cheeseburger.
What exactly is “American Cheese”?
So, if you really want to lean into the cheeseburger side of this dish, then American cheese is a must. American cheese sometimes is scorned as “not being real cheese”.
While I am not going to argue some types of American cheese hang perilously close to not even really qualifying as food, we are not talking that stuff. No, I mean American cheese in the Cheddar or Monterey Jack style cheese.
Truth be told… If you are one of those swiss and avocado mushroom burger types, then go for it.
Do I need to cook the burger meat first?
Yes, go ahead and quickly sear your hamburger meat. You don’t have to overdo it. You just want it to be cooked enough to go on top of the cheese.
The advantage is you get to drain the meat of some of that excess fat so your pizza is not too greasy. Not that greasy pizza isn’t good. Because, I am pretty sure it is recommended for hangovers involving too much pale ale.
(At least that is what I heard from a friend of a friend who knew a guy that had a cousin…)
What else goes on a cheeseburger pizza?
If you are feeling it, then even a pickle would not be out of place here. Maybe a bit of chopped banana peppers. So, whatever you like to put on your favorite cheeseburgers works. Mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, even a soft boiled egg. Why not?
I put fig and pears on pizza. Because let’s face it, why couldn’t I do that with burger meat and cheese?
